Remember when Seth MacFarlane missed his microphone cue while presenting at the 2012 Oscars and the clip ended up as a viral hit on Youtube? Apparently, that hilarious tidbit grabbed the attention of the Academy. Seth MacFarlene is set to host the 2013 Academy Awards!
“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” the 38-year-old Family Guy creator revealed in a Youtube video. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast.”
The 2013 Oscars will take place on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood & Highland.
The Academy is equally excited to have him. “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars,” Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a joint statement. “His perfoming skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
If “Family Guy” and “Ted” prove anything, Seth is a fixture in pop culture and never fails to deliver the right punch lines. Fellow celebrity friends have weighed in on twitter:
Ricky Gervais: @SethMacFarlane Congratulations on The Oscars. Great choice on their part. Don’t hold back. Let me know if you need any Scientology gags.
Aaron Paul: @SethMacFarlane is hosting the Oscars people. I think Peter vs Chicken fight continues during the ceremony. Please make that happen Seth.
DamonLindelof: If Seth MacFarlane wasn’t hosting the Oscars, he’d be ragging on Seth MacFarlane hosting the Oscars.
Let’s be honest – Seth will be a lot more entertaining to watch than the awkward Anne Hathaway / James Franco duo. What do you think about Seth hosting the 2013 Oscars? Hit the comments below and join the conversation.
