In the tradition of the Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter, another video game is making its big screen debut. An Angry Birds movie has just been announced!
That’s right. There’s gonna be a film version of a game where you use slingshots to shoot birds at things.
The film is being produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment, which releases the Angry Birds mobile app, and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
But don’t worry, the film won’t be live action!
It will be a 3D animated feature, most likely so you can feel like the birds are being shot directly at your face while you are in the theatre!
Michael Lynton, the CEO of Sony, released a statement saying, “Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate. There are few titles out there that bring this kind of excitement, brand awareness and built-in audience to the table.”
The Angry Birds film is set to hit theaters July 1, 2016.
