The feud between Nicki Minaj and her hometown’s Hot 97 radio station is getting hotter than the summer weather! When Nicki refused to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam after some derogatory comments made towards her by one of the station’s DJs – Peter Rosenberg, the hip-hop world went crazy.
It all started when DJ Peter Rosenberg said on air, “Let’s get to the real hip-hop s—of the day, ‘cause I see the real hip-hop heads sprinkled in here. I know that there are some girls out here to sing ‘Starships’ later, I ain’t talkin’ to y’all. That’s bulls—.”
Needless to say, Peter’s been getting a lot of heat for his diss but he’s standing firmly by his words. “Hey, I went out there, I was hosting, I was in the zone of doing real hip hop. I just said what came to mind and everyone made a big deal. I’m absolutely not apologizing because I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Nicki, who was headlining the festival, called into Funkmaster Flex’ show on Hot 97 to talk about her pull out: “My fans didn’t appreciate his comments. My fans at Summer Jam didn’t appreciate his comments. My fans watching the live stream didn’t appreciate his comments. This isn’t about 2,000 people in a building that he’s talking to. These are fans all over the world.”
The “Starship” rapper continued, “When you disrespect Nicki Minaj, you’re disrespecting my fans. I don’t have a problem with anyone saying what they have to say to me, but don’t make those three million people that downloaded ‘Starship’ – or whatever they downloaded – don’t make them feel they’re inferior anyway for their personal taste in music.”
Nicki also adressed that Peter singled her out because she##Q##s the only female performer that day.
