Natalie Cole talks making Spanish album!
PopStop TV caught up with legendary singer Natalie Cole at the NARM Music Biz 2013 dinner party to find out about her new album!
“I just finished a Latin project,” Natalie said. “A Spanish record. I’ m singing all in Spanish It was totally out of my comfort zone.”
But was it rewarding for Natalie?
“I loved every minute of it,” Natalie said. “My father did three Spanish records back in the late ’50s and he loved it as well. Many, many years forward I’m kind of attempting to do the same thing.”
When talking about the rise of social media, Natalie thinks if we had it back in the day when she was in the prime of her career that she would’ve handled herself pretty well.
“I’ve always been pretty transparent,” Natalie said. “I didn’t feel like I had to dodge any issues or anything like that. My life was kinda an open book whether I wanted it to be or not!”
What advice does Natalie have for upcoming singers in the biz?
“It’s so tough, it’s a tough, tough business,” Natalie said. “I think you really have to rely on your instincts and to not try to copy other people’s style. You gotta have your own style. And listen to folks who have been here that’ll give u good advice- don’t listen to your family -they are gonna tell you you’re fabulous.”
And look out X Factor and American Idol, Natalie thinks she’d be pretty good as a judge on any singing competition show!
“I kinda feel like I would be very very tough,” Natalie said. “It would be interesting. I think I would like it but I don’t think they’d like me. I love Simon [Cowell]. I think you have to be very honest with these people.”
