One of the most memorable moments at the 012 BET Awards is the Whitney Houston tribute. The award show took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 1, at the Shrine Auditorium.
Mariah Carey entered the stage in a glittering pink gown. The R&B singer shared a tear-jerking story of how she first met Whitney and how everyone was worried about the two divas standing in the room together because there was a supposed rivalry between them.
Halfway through her story, Mariah breaks down in tears and calls Whitney her “friend”. “We will always have the music. We will always have Whitney,” Mariah ended.

Following Mimi’s touching speech, Monica hit the stage and sang Whitney’s favorite song “I Love the Lord”. Brandy got the crowd excited with “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” and Whitney’s 1987 hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”.
The highlight of the tribute was when Whitney’s mom, Cissy hit the stage to perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. The 78-year-old Grammy-winning singer brought guests like Beyonce, Soulja Boy, and more to tears. Cissy’s soaring vocals reminds us all where Whitney got her talents from!
And finally, Chaka Khan hit the stage to sing “I’m Every Woman”, Whitney’s chart-topping hit in 1993. The jam got everyone dancing and clapping in the room!
