Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes settled on what may be the quickest celebrity divorce settlement of all time! Sorry to disappoint all the fans who wanted a Cruise-Holmes showdown, it looks like the estranged couple has amicably reached an agreement.
Katie’s attorney released the following public statement, “The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.”
We’d like to think the rapid-fire agreement was to help do a little media damage control. After all, Tom is known to be notoriously private about his life and we doubt either of them want this much media frenzy surrounding their 6-year-old daughter, Suri!
Katie Holmes Heading Back to Work!
“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests,” Tom and Katie said in a joint statement. “We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”
Tom and Katie##Q##s Divorce Drama Heats Up!
If the couple didn’t reach an agreement, they would’ve had to appear in a New York courtroom on July 18 for a mandatory public divorce hearing. Katie is rumored to have obtained custody of Suri, granting Tom “generous visitation” rights.
The “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” actress filed for divorce on June 29 after being married to Tom for six years. Tom’s attorney Bert Fields slammed Katie’s team for “playing the media” last Thursday and said, “We are letting ‘the other side’ play the media until they wear everyone out, and then we’ll have something to say.”
Bert’s comment was fuel on the fire for the seemingly contentious battle. No speculations have been made on how much Katie is getting from the divorce – if any at all – but she will be granted the lead role in choosing how Suri will be raised.
