The cast of “The Vampire Diaries” took the stage on Saturday to discuss the show. In attendance were executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, and cast members Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Steven R. McQueen, Michael Trevino, and Zachary Roerig.
Williamson said of upcoming season of “The Vampire Diaries,” “It’s a season of changes. The one person who is having the biggest change is…Elena.” At the end of season three, Elena was turned into a vampire, and will now have to go through a pivotal transformation. Nina Dobrev said this change is challenging. “It’s always been fun to make Elena and Katherine different. How do you make Elena the vampire version of herself and different from Katherine? That’s [going to be a challenge for season four]. I think that’ll be defined from her experiences.”
Season four of “The Vampire Diaries” will open with Elena’s new life as a vampire, but the rest of the characters face challenges as well. The brother Damon and Stefan have to deal with Elena’s transition too. Other characters will prepare for senior year and graduation. Roerig’s character, Matt, will be overwhelmed knowing that Elena never wanted to be a vampire. Fans can expect him to offer up his neck, arm, any other body part to Elena. He’s also the last human standing!
Now that Elena is a vampire, she can take care of herself. Her vampire form adds another dynamic to the love triangle. Somerhalder said, “It adds a really strong dynamic between the three of them. They can learn something from each other and it makes for a good interesting story.”
How do you feel about Elena’s transformation into a vampire? Let us know! “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere on October 11, at 8PM on the CW.
