For almost two weeks now, “The Avengers” has continued to smash multiple box office records week after week, living up to years of hype and buildup. After surpassing “The Dark Knight” as the highest grossing comic book adaptation worldwide, the box office hit has already got fans around the world begging for more sequels and superheroes in the Avengers universe. While we##Q##re going to have wait at least a year or two for the next installment of a sequel starring any member of the cast, the rest of the summer of 012 has its share of superheroes and action to satisfy your epic needs.
“GI Joe Retaliation” gives the franchise a slight makeover from the previous installment with Jon Chu taking over the director##Q##s seat and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson leading the way. If we##Q##ve learned anything from watching The Rock in other action flicks, it##Q##s that he can always deliver an entertaining performance at first billing. “GI Joe” opens in late June.
One week later, you can return to the theaters and catch the most anticipated reboot in a long time in “The Amazing Spiderman”. Andrew Garfield takes over as Peter Parker in what expects to be a surreal breath of fresh air to the Spiderman franchise. And like in most other Marvel movies, don##Q##t blink! Or you might miss another Stan Lee cameo.
Two weeks after on June 20th, we will finally get the chance to see Christopher Nolan##Q##s third installement in his “Batman” series. Even with all the recent success of “The Avengers“, all the hype and buildup for “The Dark Knight” rises leads me to make this my pick for movie of the year. Expect another quality performance from Christian Bale in this thrilling conclusion to the series.
And last but not least, you can top off your summer with the explosive sequel to last summer##Q##s action packed ensemble, “The Expendables 2″. As if the original didn##Q##t have enough built in testosterone, Sylvester Stallone went out and grabbed martial arts action star legends in Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris to join the already star studded cast. If the first movie was any indication as to what to expect, check out the “The Expendables 2″ with your brain turned off and enjoy the fireworks!
