Call him Snoop Lion! The D-O-G-G- has officially changed his name for the sake of his Reggae music career.
The 40-year-old rap star announced his new name via Twitter, “Sendin the positive vibes all around!!! Jahh!!! Rastafari!!!” He also shared a link to his new reggae song “La LaLa.”
The new jam stays true to reggae roots and features rising singer, Jovi Rockwell. Snoop Lion sings over the slow-turning, Jamaican-colored record player. The music video gives us a nostalgic feel of the old school reggae tunes.
Snoop is so dedicated to the new name, he even created a Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook account for his alter ego. So far, the fans’ reactions on social media has been more than amusing:
@FunkButcher: HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH SNOOP DOGG IS CHANGING HIS NAME TO SNOOP LION AND RELEASING A REGGAE ALBUM!! ….IM NOT JUST DEAD..IM CREMATED!!
@NotBillWalton: Snoop Dogg is changing his name to Snoop Lion and releasing a reggae album. No punchline needed, that statement alone is a complete joke.
@Supricky06: I didn’t realize exactly HOW high Snoop Dogg was until I read he changed his name to snoop lion and is putting out a reggae album.
Billboard kindly points out that this is not the first time the rapper rebranded himself. In 1998, Snoop dropped “doggy” from his moniker and asked to go by “Snoop Dogg” instead of “Snoop Doggy Dogg”.
Not gonna lie. We dig the new song and the new name!
