Tragic news broke this morning of Rodney King’s untimely demise. Mostly-known for a police beating that was captured on video and triggered one of the biggest riots in history, Rodney was found dead in a swimming pool early Sunday morning in Rialto, California.
The 47-year-old activist was discovered by his fiancée Cynthia Kelly. According to CNN, the officers at the scene were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Although an autopsy will be performed, there is no preliminary evidence of foul play.
“Rodney King” immediately became one of the top trending topics on Twitter and the twitterverse remembers him for his beating, the trial of the four LAPD officers, a riot that took 50 lives and cost over $1 billion inproperty damage, and Rodney’s famous public plea: “People, I just want to say, can we all get along? Can we get along?”
