Storybrooke is about to get more crowded with the addition of two new Disney characters. ABC’s fairy tale drama, Once Upon a Time, is welcoming Mulan and Sleeping Beauty.
The show centers around fairy tale characters, but it is Disney with a twist. The Evil Queen has cast a spell in fairy tale land, so now all the characters are stuck in a town called Storybrooke. None of the characters remember who they used to be and all have different lives with different names. However, the dilemmas that they face in the cursed world are similar to dilemmas that they faced in the fairy tale world. The long lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming arrives in town and slowly things begin to change in the cursed world…
The Hangover Part II actress Jamie Chung has been cast as Mulan (surprise, surprise) and The Tudors actress Sarah Bolger will be playing the role of Sleeping Beauty/Princess Aurora.
In the Disney film, Mulan pretends to be her father’s son in order to save him from death and fights in the army in his place. Her secret is found out in the end, but Mulan is rewarded for her bravery. In the film Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora is put to deep sleep, hence Sleeping Beauty, with a finger prick caused by Maleficent’s spinning wheel. She is brought back to life with a handsome prince’s kiss.
Many other major Disney characters and princesses have already been introduced in Once Upon a Time. There is Snow White (played by Ginnifer Goodwin) and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Pinocchio, Belle, Red Riding Hood and Granny, Rumplestiltskin, and more.
Once Upon a Time’s first season has already ended, but there is no doubt more magic, twists and drama are to come during the second season!
