An anti-Obama documentary, “2016: Obama’s America,” opened in a single theater in Texas this past weekend. The documentary features Obama’s half brother and grossed an estimated $31,750.
The film is based on the book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” by Dinesh D’Souza, a conservative. Management of the theater had to upgrade the movie showing to one of its largest rooms. Despite many complaints of the movie’s content, about 200 people were turned away from the anti-Obama documentary viewing. Some moviegoers sat in the aisles and waited almost 90 minutes to meet D’Souza and Gerald Molen. Molen co-produced “2016” with Doug Sain. There were three sold-out auditoriums for a Friday showing.
People who complained about the movie called the theater and said the movie shouldn’t be shown. The manager compared these complaints to ones made when “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “The Passion of the Christ” came out. Some people showed up at the box office wearing pro Obama shirts to express their feelings. However, the disturbance was kept to a minimum.
Sain and Molen are hoping “2016” will expand to more theaters in the months to come.
There has been a lot of Obama talk amongst celebrities lately. Morgan Freeman made a comment on how Obama is not America’s first black president. Wayne Brady threatened to slap the crap out of Bill Maher for his Obama comments. Brad Pitt’s mother wrote an anti-Obama letter to a local newspaper. Spike Lee doesn’t think there will be another black president if Obama loses.
No matter what your opinion is on Obama, the movie will surely make for an interesting watch.
