Well, can’t say we’re completely shocked about Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones leaving “X Factor” but Paula… Really? Paula?
News broke out tonight that “X Factor US” is losing two of the show’s mentors – Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul – along with host Steve Jones. Deadline.com reports that a source close to Simon Cowell said all three members were asked to leave.
“None of the three left on their own accord,” Deadline editor Nikki Finke wrote. “It was cleaning house day at the so-so rated show.”
A show source tells E! that Paula found out about the news today. “Simon wants to take the show in a different direction.”
Although a friend of former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger’s told E! News that she left the show on her own free will to focus on her music career, she’s spoken to Simon and he’s given her his blessing, the exit of Paula and Steve makes that story seem extremely suspicious.
Steve Jones confirmed his own fate, tweeting, “I won’t be hosting next seasons X Factor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show.”
We’re not sure why Simon wants to get rid of Paula, unless it’s her “Idol” association but let’s be honest – she’s so much better on this show than “Idol”! I can’t say we’ll miss much of Nicole’s waterworks on the show (like her 30-minute crying session after Rachel Crow’s elimination) but we sure will miss the how the duo battles for camera time.
I guess we’ll all have our fingers crossed until Fox makes an official announcement!
