America is proud to have its first black president, but Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman thinks otherwise.
Freeman points out that Obama is of mixed-race heritage, and therefore, “America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president – he’s America’s first mixed-race president.”
The actor’s argument is that because everyone thinks Obama is black, there is a racial barrier set up against him. Freeman believes that people oppose the president because of his race, and his political opponents treat him unfairly.
“First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this [racial] barrier for him…they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white—very white American, Kansas, middle of America,” says Morgan Freeman.
Maybe Freeman forgot that people of mixed races sometimes identify themselves with only one parent’s race. In this case, Obama has chosen to identify himself as an African-American.
Morgan Freeman may have a point, but black or not, Obama has done his best as President!
