Mary Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s estranged second wife, was found dead in her home in Bedford, New York on Wednesday afternoon, according to ABC. She was only 52 years old.
The Bedford Police Department released a statement to confirm they were investigating a “possible unattended death” at the address. Another statement followed saying they found a “a deceased individual … inside an out building on that property.”
There was not a witness at the scene of the death and the name was withheld until the family had been notified. Sources identified the deceased person to be Mary Kennedy.
Robert and Mary Kennedy wed in 1994 and in May 2010, Robert filed for divorce. After documents had been filed, police were called to the Kennedy’s home for a “domestic incident” that took place. Three days later Mary Kennedy was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
A representative of the family of Mary Kennedy released a statement on Wednesday saying, “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation.”
Mary Kennedy is survived by Robert, 58, and their children, Conor, Kyra, William and Aiden.
