We knew it was coming!
Our PopStop TV News team reported earlier this month that Mariah Carey was getting closer to inking her new deal with “American Idol”. Fox confirmed the news today at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills, announcing that Mimi has officially signed on to judge the show’s upcoming 12th season.
Mariah shared via phone call to Fox boss Kevin Reilly, “I am so excited to be joining ‘Idol’. I wanted to be there today and I wish I could have been there myself to tell you. I can’t wait to get started in a couple months.”
I guess Mariah and “Idol” do belong together! Apparently, the diva is a huge fan of the singing competition and she’s proven to be a natural fit after she served as a guest mentor during Top 7 Week on Season 7.
Despite her hubby Nick Cannon’s jokes of how “Idol” can’t afford her, the 42-year-old diva’s team has worked out a favorable number for her – somewhere between $12 million to $17 million.
It turns out that Randy Jackson is Mariah’s manager and was involved in her negotiations. “The Dawg” confirmed on “The View” last week that he will, indeed, stay on board, though his role is unknown.
Now that Fox executives have crossed off a female star vocalist on their list, who will be the male judge? Adam Lambert?
Sound off below on your predictions for Season 12!
