When news of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce broke on Friday, fans reactions on social media were not too shocking, to say the least. Details are now emerging as to what led the 33-year-old actress to file for divorce.
According to RadarOnline, Tom was way too controlling to Katie. A source close to the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” actress said, “Tom has always made all the decisions in their relationship and called all the shots and initially Katie found it charming – don’t forget, she was pretty young when they met and compared to Tom she was hardly worldly.”

However, all the butterflies and rainbows didn’t last long after the marriage, and the couple fought on all sorts of things. “Tom hated her being called Katie, and wanted her to insist on being called Kate, which she hated. He vetted all her movie roles, made all the decisions about where and when they would vacation, how Suri would be raised, when she spoke to her parents, where they went for dinner, everything!”
Tom seems to be blindswiped by Katie’s divorce, and Katie’s request for sole custody of Suri only means there’s more drama!
TMZ is reporting that Katie’s decision to file for divorce in new York was a strategy to get Tom in trouble for taxes. According to the site, Tom has been trying to do everything legally within his power to avoid strong ties to NYC because the tax rates are high. TMZ obtained docs which show Tom deeded their NYC apartment to Katie last August and “it was done specifically for tax purposes.”
Also, New York courts are more likely to grant Katie sole legal custody and control over child decisions than California courts.
