Tragic news broke this morning that Emmy-winning actress Kathryn Joosten died Friday after a long battle with lung cancer. Kathryn, 72, was best known for her role as the hilarious neighbor Karen McCluskey on “Desperate Housewives” and President Jed Bartlet’s trusted secretary Dolores Landingham in NBC’s “The West Wing”.
“Kathryn passed away this morning after a valiant fight against her cancer,” her rep told E! News. “Her family was with her. Funeral arrangements are pending. This is a terrible loss, and she fought as hard as she could.”
Kathryn’s “Desperate Housewives” co-stars and friends took to Twitter to express their condolences:
Emmy Rossum: “So sad to read that actress Kathryn Joosten passed away. Mrs. Landingham from The West Wing is one of my alltime favorite TV characters.”
Yvette Nicole Brown: “Kathryn Joosten taught me SO much about the business. She was funny, fun & TOUGH and I loved her to pieces!”
Felicity Huffman: “Rest in peace, she was an amazing woman and a wonderful actress.”
Brenda Strong: “Wisteria Lane won’t be the same without you.”
Kathryn, a strong advocate for lung cancer awareness and research, sat on the board of governors for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
To celebrate Kathryn’s life, our PopStop TV News team found our last interview with the beloved actress. I had the wonderful pleasure of catching up with Kathryn one last time at GBK##Q##s Golden Globes Gift Lounge in January, 2012.
