2012 is totally the golden year for Jennifer Lopez! Not only did our favorite “Dance Again” singer experience the greatest career renaissance of all time, she’s also sitting cushy at the top of the Forbes Celebrity 100 List!
So how did the 42-year-old Latina mama go from No.50 in 2011 to beating out Oprah, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga?
It all started with “American Idol”! Reaching the viewership of 25 million people each week is nice, but more importantly, the Fox singing competition helped to brand Jennifer Lopez from a diva to a sweet, nurturing mom audience can relate to. The show’s executives were so impressed with her performance, J.Lo’s reps negotiated a whopping $20 million for the second season of “Idol”.
Not only did J.Lo use Idol’s huge platform to debut all her top hits, she also became the new face of L’Oreal, Gillette, Fiat, and TOUS jewelry. Advertisers were completely turned-on to the fact that exposure from a networking singing-competition show is huge.
J.Lo covered 46 magazines last year, snagged People’s 201 Most Beautiful title, and was named Glamour Woman of the Year. Her new movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is in theaters now, and her new fragrance, Glowing, racked in $2 billion in total sales.
Just wait until she kicks off her first international music tour, starting in Panama City in June! Now let##Q##s go make that J.Lo money, honey.
