PopStop TV’s own XiXi Yang caught up with Ne-Yo at his pre-Grammy party to catch up on how he is going about with his 5th studio album, teaming up with Malibu, working with Motown, finding out about the death of Whitney Houston and more.
Ne-Yo has been busy with quite a few projects lately, and among other things, he is focusing on his 5th studio album! He told us we should be expecting a release in June and probably a single out next month. As opposed to his last album, which was about his “bad boy” side, this one is going to be more honest.
“I’m excited about the album. It’s a very, very honest album. I’m telling the truth about a whole lot of stuff.”
The 32-year-old singer-songwriter/producer recently left Def Jam to become Senior VP at Motown Records. As for his vision for Motown, “I’m just trying to take it back to its original glory,” said Ne-Yo. “I definitely want to focus on R&B music first and just bring that back.”
Since the new had broke just hours before talking to Ne-Yo, we had to ask about his thoughts on the death of Whitney Houston.
“Even now, it still doesn’t feel real to me,” he said. “I still haven’t wrapped my head around the fact that she’s gone.”
On how she impacted him and the music world in general, he continued, “She’s one of the ones that set the bar very, very high. She showed us a level of excellence that we hadn’t seen before her.”
And since Valentine’s Day was right around the corner, it was appropriate that he squeezed in a little secret about who he’s looking at: “Adele is my celebrity crush,” Ne-Yo admitted. We can’t blame him!
