PopStop TV News caught up with Melissa Rycroft at her Les Mills BodyPump Fitness Demo & DVD Launch Party Tuesday night. She filled us in about how being a mom influences her fitness routine, tricks for helping yourself achieve fitness goals and her new reality show!
Since having her first baby Ava Grace with husband Tye Strickland last February, Melissa admits that her fitness régime has been altered. Less time is available to hit the gym and be devoted to a specific routine, so she makes sure to make the best out of what she can.
“I’m a firm believer that working out should be fun, so I love group settings, I like music, and that’s what has lead me to Les Mills’ new program.”
Melissa does admit that her guilty pleasure is sweets and that she occasionally cheats, but mentions if you moderate on those types of foods and work a little harder the next day, it’s no big deal!
We’re all eager to watch Melissa’s new reality show on CMT, which features herself and her husband trying to balance working and parenthood after moving to California from Texas, and she shared what viewers should expect from it.
“The main point that we wanted to get across is that we’re real,” said Melissa. “We have real issues, emotionally, financially, everything like that and we wanted to be relatable.”
According to Melissa, family always comes first, and with the help of all her experiences, she has developed her own opinion on what the secret to making things work is.
“[Tye] is my best friend and we have to laugh. We understand we’re in a hard situation, and you keep the communication open, and we’ve been the first ones to say if anything gets tough, this world will be left behind. It’s nothing that we’re going to let come between our family.”
