The Republican National Convention took an interesting turn last night when surprise guest Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair. The chair was supposed to represent an “Invisible Obama.” He had a one-sided conversation with the empty chair. During his speech he said, “They were having a thing and they were talking about ‘Hope and Change’ and ‘Yes We Can.’ It was dark and we were outdoors…People were lighting candles. I thought, ‘This is great.’ Everyone was crying. Oprah was crying. I was even crying… I haven’t cried that hard since I found out that there are 23 million unemployed people in this country. Now that is something to cry for because that is a national disgrace and we haven’t done enough obviously.”
Hollywood reacted to this bizarre ploy from Clint Eastwood:
Seth Meyers: “Respect to Clint. 82 years old and putting Twitter over capacity.”
Tom Brokaw: “Clint Eastwood became a huge star as a man of few words As a surprise guest on the Tampa stage he had too many words (I say as a friend).”
Roseanne Barr: “clint eastwood is CRAY.”
Piers Morgan: “Still reeling from that #Clint performance – sooooooooo weird.”
Blake Shelton: “I. Love. Clint Eastwood.”
Zachary Quinto: “is clint eastwood meant to instill confidence in republicans?! I am legitimately scared of his talking to imaginary obama.”
George Takei: “Clint Eastwood’s RNC speech was to imaginary Obama in an empty chair. I’m drafting a DNC speech to imaginary Romney in an empty factory.”
Barack Obama: “This seat’s taken. OFA.BO/c2gbfi, pic.twitter.com/jgGZTb02.”
Zach Braff: “Still can’t tell if Clint was hallucinating or President is really invisible now.”
Judd Apatow: “I haven’t seen Clint yet. I hope it doesn’t ruin Bronco Billy for me.”
Even though not everyone may agree with Clint Eastwood, the actor certainly held everyone’s attention.
