Christina Aguilera is never afraid to speak her mind! The 31-year-old “Your Body” singer is on the cover of Billboard magazine to chat about her new album, “Lotus” and through discussing her music, she also opened up for the first time about her weight struggles.
“During the promotion of my album Stripped [in 2002], I got tired of being a skinny, white girl,” Christina revealed. “I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl.”
Christina continued explaining hat when she did put on 15 pounds during promotion of her “Stripped” tour with Justin Timberlake, her record label called an emergency meeting and guilt-tripped her into losing the weight fast.
“They claimed people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows,” ‘The Voice’ judge revealed. “I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back to Basics promos and touring.”
After her public divorce with Jordan Bratman and the flop of her 2010 album “Bionic”, Christina had a revelation to take control of her weight and life.
“I told them during this Lotus recording, ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.’ They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body,” Christina says. “My body can’t put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore – my body is just not on the table that way anymore.”
