Beyonce is using her superstar power to raise awareness for World Humanitarian Day! The goal is to find 1 billion volunteers by August 19. The singer performed “I Was Here” at the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations on Friday.
World Humanitarian Day commemorates 22 humanitarian workers who were killed in a 2003 terrorist attack in Iraq. You can go to WHD-IWasHere.org to pledge help to someone in need.
Beyonce said at the performance, “I’d like to ask everyone to make sure they’re a part of August 19th. It’s such a beautiful, beautiful day, and I’d like to honor the 22 people who lost their lives. God bless you all. Thank you so much for having me.”
This is why we love Beyonce! Not only is she talented, but “she brings inspiration to help another person, to another human being,” said U.N. Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson.
