Avril Lavigne has done a good job of keeping her relationship with Chad Kroeger a secret! They have surprised everyone by announcing that they’re engaged! Kroeger, frontman of Nickelback, and Lavigne have been dating for six months. The couple initially met in February when they were set up to co-write a song for Avril’s fifth album.
A friend of Avril’s told People, “A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together.” Chad popped the question on August 8 with a 14-carat diamond.
However, as soon as news broke about their engagement, Twitter started mocking the Canadian couple. Damien Fahey wrote, “Here’s to Avril Lavigne marrying Chad Kroeger and one day giving birth to a happy, healthy Now That’s What I Call Music! CD.” Michael Ian Black tweeted, “People forget that Avril and Chad Kroeger are both Canadian so they HAVE to get married. It’s also why Justin Bieber is going to marry Rush.” Music publicist Eric Alper joked, “Twitterverse exploding over upcoming Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger wedding. Why did they have to go and make things so complicated?”
This will be Avril’s second time walking down the aisle. She was first married to Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2006. They divorced in 2009.
